Xu Xiake was a renowned geographer in China's Ming Dynasty. He spent over thirty years traveling through more than half of China. Relying mainly on foot travel, he visited numerous remote and secluded regions. He meticulously recorded his observations and findings, leaving behind precious investigative materials for future generations. Through on-site investigations of many rivers, he corrected errors in historical documents regarding water sources. He also provided detailed descriptions of how factors such as terrain and climate affected plants, and vividly depicted scenic spots, historical sites, and local customs across different regions. His investigative records were later compiled by later generations into "The Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake," which has had a wide-ranging impact both domestically and internationally.
