The sixth round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue has opened in Beijing. The two-day event brings together senior diplomats and officials from both sides.

Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, in which he reviewed the challenges encountered in the development of China-US relations, but also stressed the need to strengthen cooperation.
"Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 35 years ago, the relations between China and the US have challenges, but the trend is that we are moving forward. Historic developments have been made," Xi said.
"There are now over 90 mechanism for dialogue, and last year, the bilateral trade volume exceed US$520 billion, bilateral investment accounted for over US$100 billion, and there are over 41 pairs of friendly provinces or states from both sides, and 202 sister cities. Historic lessons and realities prove one thing: if we cooperate, we can all gain ground in the world, but stand against each other and there’ll be harm. Cooperation between China and the US will benefit the world, while the opposite would bring disaster."
